Massage Therapy with Karen Barker, LMT

Studies continue to prove the physical, and emotional benefits of even a single massage therapy session. Massage may help improve circulation, boost immune system functioning, and release old stress patterns. Just as a yoga or fitness practice is more beneficial when practiced on a consistent basis, massage is most effective when received regularly. At the Leavenworth Yoga Co-op, we believe strongly in massage and offer discounted massage packages to make it even easier to take care of yourself. Commit to regular massage for your health and well-being, your body will thank you for it!

Our wonderful licensed massage therapist, Karen Barker, LMT, is available by appointment 7 days a week. To schedule an appointment, please call 913-364-5800.

Pre-massage Consultation

Karen takes an individually-tailored approach to massage therapy that addresses your unique condition and needs. Each treatment begins with a review of your initial questionnaire and a general assessment to determine areas of restriction and tightness. Please mention any special conditions so your therapist can maximize the effectiveness of the session.

Swedish Massage

This European technique uses long, fluid strokes to calm the body, settle the mind and restore lost energy. It is gentle, soothing and emphasizes relaxation. Designed to melt away stress and ease muscle fatigue.

Sports Massage

A more vigorous technique that focuses on overused muscles from repetitive stress. This treatment is aimed to reduce muscle tension in superficial and deep muscle fibers. Designed to enhance athletic performance and reduce recovery time. Ideal for anyone but is especially recommended for pre- and post- workouts to alleviate the tension that accumulates during physical activity.

Deep Tissue Massage

Our deep tissue massage includes myofascial release and trigger point release techniques to stimulate blood flow to restricted areas and relieve knotted muscles that are unable to fully release on their own. Geared towards opening up the superficial and deep connective tissue that encompasses all of your muscle fibers and cells. Recipients can actively participate through deep breathing guided by your therapist as well as identifying areas of discomfort.

Hand and Foot Reflexology Massage

By applying a variety of highly detailed and refined finger and thumb techniques to the foot, healing physiological responses are facilitated within the body. Benefits of reflexology massage include: grounding, stress reduction, physical relaxation of the entire body, and improved flexibility and circulation of the feet or hands. Wear comfortable clothes, tions are available, (1) Head, arms and feet, or (2) Head, face, and shoulders. Soft music to soothe and relax. No oils or lotions are used, unless requested. 30 min. sessions only $25 for a limited time!

Thai Massage

Achieve balance and well-being with this ancient healing therapy. Thai Massage is performed with the client fully clothed and on a comfortable floor mat. Using a combination of compression and passive stretching techniques along with rocking and gentle pulling, the therapist decompresses joints and lengthens constricted tissue. Some of the many benefits include reduction of pain and swelling, greater flexibility, stress relief, and a boost of the immune system.
